The Birth of the Outback Thunda Name.

How did Outback Thunda become Outback Thunda? Well, after travelling around the USA promoting monster truck shows on the East Coast Featherby decided a stronger, more Aussie name was required to capture the American Market.

At the time, Thunderstruck was playing everywhere and Thunda was already a horse named Bronco Magic, hence he couldn’t be confined with the Denver Broncos. So a wild horse from the outback plains where Thunda booms across the vast land, hence outback like a brumby, Thunda from the noise of the wild outback and the thunder of the huge monster truck engine. WELCOME OUTBACK THUNDA (southern across the hemisphere). Thunda has built up a reputation as a tough excitement machine in the USA, Canada, New Zealand, UAE and ever thrilling audiences in Mainland China. Thunda really does leave the crowd Thunda Struck.

There have now been five versions on Outback Thunda. The current truck is a specially designed three-seater monster truck built in Utah USA by Kreg Christensen.

  • Thunda is powered by a Big Block 454 Chevy fuel injected super charged motor producing1300 horsepower.
  • Thunda’s motors are regularly maintained by Ipswich (Queensland) bound Peter Duffy.
  • Thunda has a two speed specially built power slide transmission, built and maintained by Luna Tech Supremo Mr Danny Patard.
  • Thunda has huge 66 inch tyres and is a very thirsty monster truck that runs on a alcohol based fuel called methonal.
  • Thunda drinks around 60 litres of fuel every single 4 minutes it runs.
  • Thunda cost over $400,000 to build and is based in Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast Queensland.
  • Thunda appears at over fifty shows or events every year.
